Built in 1915, the mission style building stands in the heart of Sausalito over looking Vina Del Mar Park. After a complete renovation in 1996, Hotel Sausalito is decorated with custom made wrought iron bed frames, faux finsh walls in 3 warm colors and art work that helps compliment the feel of having a little of the French Riviera in Sausalito. With 14 bedrooms and 2 suites, this romantic Hotel is the perfect place to stay for business or pleasure. All rates include a continental breakfast at Caffe Tutti, right next door to the Hotel. Guests park in the City parking lot adjacent to the Hotel, for a fee of $20.00 per day. Family owned and run, gives Hotel Sausalito a personal touch.HistoryEstablished in 1915.Built in Mission Revival style, the hotel in it’s early days was widely rumored to have been a bordello. In the rough and tumble Thirties, trucks of prohibition liquor rumbled past to the nearby docks for late night rendezvous. Baby Face Nelson was heard to be a regular guest. As the hotel closest to the waterfront, railroad workers, sea types, writer and gangsters along with passing travelers all helped to keep the hotel full.Cut to the more openly permissive Sixties and Seventies and people like writer Sterling Hayden lived in residence at the hotel.Keeping him company were assorted artistic types seeking a more beatnik environment than even San Francisco could offer. It seems every great hotel serves as the setting for a movie. In Hotel Sausalito’s case there’s too many to mention, but “Serial” and “Partners in Crime” come to mind.”Mother” starring Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds, has a cameo shot of the hotel when it was undergoing it’s most recent extensive renovation.Meet the Manager
